Clinical 1.5/3 Tesla Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a non-invasive medical imaging technique that uses a magnetic field and computer-generated radio waves to create detailed images. It has become the leading cross-sectional imaging method in clinical practice and continuous technical improvements have significantly broadened the scope of applications. MRI comprises a variety of tools ranging from high-resolution anatomical structure visualization to functional studies and even molecular-level description of metabolic events in the cell.

Our mission is to give support to clinical researchers at Skåne University hospital, the faculties and institutions at Lund University as well as national collaborators.

The Clinical Magnetic Resonance Imaging facility is housed within the Centre for Medical Imaging and Function at Skåne University Hospital in Lund. Availability to research users is facilitated by a close cooperation between LBIC and Skåne University Hospital.

Services

We develop the future in close collaboration with technicians, engineers, physicists, authorities, business, research institutes, colleges, universities, foundations, clinics and in national and international projects or individual limited studies. This means that competence and training are required continuously and entails significant expectations of our employees who live up to this. We offer state-of-the-art imaging MRI systems and many years of practical experience in a wide verity of MR-applications. High-quality images of small animals and excised tissue can be obtained.

Example of studies that can be done:

  • Morphological imaging (MRI)
  • Diffusion imaging (DWI)
  • Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI)
  • MR spectroscopy (MRS)
  • MR angiography (MRA)
  • Functional MR (fMRI)
  • Perfusion MR (PWI)

Equipment

  • Siemens Magnetom SKYRA (3 Tesla)
  • Siemens Magnetom PRISMA (3 Tesla)
  • Siemens Magnetom Aera (1.5 Tesla)
