Using the facility

All proposed projects are evaluated by the 7T Research Board, with respect to possibility to perform the intended experiments successfully, given the equipment available. Decisions are taken by majority vote and at least five members must be present for a vote to be valid. Decision will be sent by email to the main applicant. Currently planned research board meetings:

  • January 18
  • February 27
  • March 20
  • April 24
  • May 14
  • June 12
  • August 29

Note! Applications have to be submitted at least 10 days before the meeting!

New users

If you are interested in using the facility, have questions or if you want to discuss your project idea, please contact: Karin Markenroth Bloch, karin [dot] markenroth_bloch [at] med [dot] lu [dot] se

Upon project approval

  1. You are required to sign the research contract with Philips.
This is done by filling out and signing the two Annexes (example here). The complete agreement is available on request.
  2. Book a start-up meeting with Boel Hansson: boel [dot] hansson [at] med [dot] lu [dot] se
  3. Fill out project details in the "book of methods".
  4. Book training sessions for project participants.
  5. Make sure you have mandatory certificates to use the facility:
    • Certificate of Authorization ("assistant license").
To get the license you will have to attend a session (2-3 hours) for safety training, information of routines and a tour of the facility.
    • Certificate of Competence ("scanning license").
The scanning license requires scanning together with 7T staff and ends with a "drivers test". These are individually planned.

When all the steps are done the project will be opened in our booking system. Invoices will be sent every three months and are based on the bookings made in the booking system.

NOTE: We require that you:

  • Give an annual project update via a questionnaire sent out in the beginning of the year
  • Acknowledge the Swedish national 7T facilities in your publications
  • Follow the research agreement, including sending publications to Philips PRIOR to submission
  • Notify the facility when you have a paper published or conference abstract accepted

Booking of research persons, volunteers as well as patients, have to be done in both the hospital RIS and the 7T booking system, unless something else is stated in your specific ethical approval.

Before we can book time slots, all items in the checklist needs to be checked. The procedure for booking will be determined in the start-up meeting and documented in the "book of methods".

Users can't book slots in the 7T booking system, but use the read-only version of the booking system to see when there are open slots. The link is:

Data export

Data can be exported from the scanner in a number of ways.

  • Hospital PACS system
It is mandatory to send at least one image series to PACS for radiological review (unless your ethical approval clearly states differently).
  • 7T archive
The archive is a data storage system, where data is stored per project and you get access to your own projects. The servers are inside the hospital firewalls is allowed to store sensitive personal data on.
    • You need to get a user account, which you get from Boel [dot] Hansson [at] med [dot] lu [dot] se (Boel Hansson).
    • Provide downloading of data from anywhere using two-factor authentication. Downloaded data can pseudonymized, and you can specify the pseudonymization in a template.
    • For instruction read the 7T archive user manual.
    • The archive is on ( if you are inside the firewall).
  • MIPP
An inline processing and data storage pipeline, with access only with Lund university hospital firewalls. Contact Jimmy [dot] Latt [at] med [dot] lu [dot] se (Jimmy Lätt) for information on setting up and using the MIPP.
